This week on CU-CitizenAccess.org, a website and social network devoted to coverage and discussion of social and economic issues within Central Illinois:
Future of public housing in Danville remains uncertain
By Landon Cassman/ Public housing was established by the federal government to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities. Today, there are more than 1.2 million public housing households nationwide.
Low-income housing advocates estimate that about 10,000 public housing homes are demolished or sold every year.
Danville and public housing officials are grappling over the future of its largest public housing complex - Fair Oaks.
Listen to the three-part series beginning Tuesday on Illinois Public Media this week or visit CU-CitizenAccess.org for an interactive map and more.
