This week on CU-CitizenAccess.org, a website and social network devoted to coverage and discussion of social and economic issues within Central Illinois:
In Champaign County, the increase in children living in poverty is dramatic, data from the U.S. Census Bureau suggest.
The 2000 census showed that about 12 percent of children in the county were living in poverty.
By 2009, that figure had doubled, with more than 24 percent of those under 18 living below the poverty line, according to the most recent census estimates.

In Danville, the number of renters ages 55-64 increased 70 percent, while the number of homeowners increased 20 percent.
