Dobbins Downs Community

Our primary objective is to provide events, programs, and opportunities which enhance the neighborhood of Dobbins Downs subdivision, which includes approximately 560 separate residences.

Our subdivision is composed of a culturally diverse population: racially mixed, predominantly low-income, and approximately a 50/50 mix of renters vs. homeowners.

Also, jurisdictionally it has been difficult to obtain assistance for the subdivision, as parts of the subdivision are in the City and other parts are in the County, and are even further divided again as some properties are in Hensley Township and others are in Champaign Township.

By coming together as an organization, we are attempting to develop a sense of unity and community in this neighborhood.

Dobbins Downs builds a playground

By Landon Cassman - The Dobbins Downs Community Improvement Association has fulfilled their two-year long mission of building a park in their neighborhood.

Playground is built

Saturday was a monumental day for The Dobbins Downs neighborhood when volunteers capped off their week of hard work by completing the neighborhood's new playground.

The new playground is located at 2603 Campbell Dr. in Champaign.

Check out the News-Gazette's slideshow on build day. The neigborhood has worked for the past two years to bring this project to fruition.

Opening ceremonies will be at 6 p.m Tuesday.
